What’s New, Google?

High-Speed Internet via “Fiber for Communities” is a new Google initiative. I found this landing page through an AdWords impression.

landing page for Google's Fiber Network program

Not only is it interesting to note Google’s foray into a new realm– ultra-high speed Internet Service, but it’s a pretty nice landing page with 6 elements that work seamlessly together:

  • Iconic Google  logo
  • Fiber image that stretches to the right carrying your eye to the Get Involved button and the visually similar image of houses with the colored fiber conduits.
  • Two brief paragraphs with a strong headline
  • A 1:24  video
  • Singular Call To Action (CTA) — “Get involved”
  • Nothing below the fold, except the copyright.

Anyone that wants to know how to design webpages for 21st century users including landing pages, only needs to study what Google does with its webpages. They do it all. I consider this a nice lander for the purpose at hand.

#2 New Google item:

A real-time Twitter “feed” when you search for a Twitter user. For example, I searched: Twitter starbucks and was returned the following results page:

twitter results in search results

That’s a new one for me.
