Wa, Wa, Wa, Wa, Wa Web Copy

The Grok on Bryan Eisenberg has this parallel to make between one of his corporate clients’ typical marketing/communication copy– “…staff’s copy comes off sounding like the teacher in the Charlie Brown cartoons: ‘Wa, wa, wa, wa, wa….'” His point in his post — and it’s incredibly relevant — is that while his client’s objective was to produce something “remarkable,” the first biggest hurdle was in overcoming internal communications style likely dictated by management.

There can be a big disconnect between what a client says they want and what they  are ready for.

An unrelated question:

“Can you be too inquisitive?”

Nah, says John Forde, curiosity is particularly important for copywriters:

David Ogilvy once said that curiosity was the key trait he looked for when hiring a writer. Be warned, if you don’t like asking questions, this might not be the field for you.
