Hog Heaven

The New York Times featured an article yesterday, Harley Woos Female Bikers, by Clifford Krauss (subscription) that plays up the newest marketing thrust by the company. I’ve neglected for months writing about the boom in Harley heaven. It seems that this innovation in marketing may be a follow-up to what seems like a nationwide burst of mainstream marketing. Over the last year I’ve had the good fortune to be able to drive back and forth across the country a couple of times. It’s amazing what you can see and learn about social, political, and economic trends, if only I were a bit smarter. There seemed to be a new or newish standalone Harley Davidson dealership in a profound number of places along Roadside America.

If you’re like me and think that Harleys are just sold from beat-up cycle shops, think again. These are shiny, new high-end dealerships. So, I’m thinking if I were into stocks and investing, what’s up financially with HD? And am I missing the boat, or the bike?
